This mini messenger bag features a repeating abstract pattern of a Small Milkweed Bug ( Lygaeus kalmii) set on a gold background. This bug is black with orange bands on the forewings that form an “X.” The head is also black with a red spot on the top which often extends to the face. It is theorized that this brightly colored pattern warns predators that the insect tastes bad. They feed on plants which contain toxins that the insects take into their bodies when feeding. The insects are not harmed by the toxins, but predators don’t like the taste of the insects, so after tasting a black and orange insect, they learn to leave them alone!

This clock features the Great Blue Heron, a large wading bird in the heron family Ardeidae, common near the shores of open water and in wetlands. He is the largest North American heron. Notable features include slaty flight feathers, red-brown thighs, and a paired red-brown and black stripe up the flanks; the neck is rusty-gray, with black and white streaking down the front; the head is paler, with a nearly white face, and a pair of black plumes running from just above the eye to the back of the head. The feathers on the lower neck are long and plume-like. Because this is the breeding season, he also has plumes on the lower back and an orange bill. His feathers are backlit by the luminous sunlight.

One of the most widespread and commonly observed birds of prey in North America, this fierce hunter is perched on a branch high up in a tree, patiently waiting for a meal to appear. Her head is brown and the creamy white breast has brown spots.
This Earth Day card features the Red Eft, the terrestrial juvenile stage of the Eastern Newt (or Red-Spotted Newt). This curious orange fellow with red spots has just emerged from the pond to spend two or three years on land before heading back to the water as a full grown salamander. Inside are two smaller red efts. All text can be customized to suit your needs.

This terrific image of dogs reading, writing and attending school is by the well known vintage pets artist, Louis Wain. Known primarily for his anthropomorphic images of cats, Louis Wain also made a large number of dog images, mainly in his earlier years. He illustrated about one hundred children's books, and his work appeared in papers, journals, magazines.
